Finding the FSSAI registration centre in Mizoram to get a Food Licence

FSSAI is the primary autonomous body responsible for maintaining and supervising food safety and setting up the regulations to enforce food safety across the country. All food business operators have to register and receive a license before beginning their business. If they plan on starting their business without one, they will face a long list of fines and penalties. The challenge about the process is that an FSSAI registration implies that the FBO needs to register for a food licence, but there are three separate food licences. Finding the right one depending on the FBO, their scale, their potential for growth and their branches across India are significant factors that help decide under which category an establishment should register.

There are two things to keep in mind when going through the registration process. Registering under the wrong type of licence can get an establishment in trouble since they would be conducting business under a licence they are not eligible to receive. Furthermore, this can cause a lot of confusion since most do not know the details of the different types of FSSAI licenses. Even if an FBO filled out the form with information that might later have changed, they have to inform the FSSAI about their changing business direction. Additionally, if they foresee any changes in the turnovers, they have to change the details of their registrations. Secondly, there are various schemes they can apply for according to their licence category, but if not done correctly, they could get in trouble.

All food business operators in India require one of three types of food licenses. These categories depend upon the type and size of the food business and its total annual turnover as well.

  • Basic Registration - If the annual turnover of a business is less than 12 lacs, the food business operator should register using the Registration Form A.
  • State Licence - If the annual turnover of the business is between 12 to 20 crores, the food business operator should apply for the State license using Form B.
  • Central Licence - If the annual turnover of the business is above 20 crores, the food business operator should apply for a Central License by filling Form B.

Additional information to keep in mind

Business operators have to apply for their FSSAI Registration, either online or at the office. The online option is ideally better and more convenient, allowing people to go through the process by providing them assistance along the way. It has an FAQ section providing answers if they find themselves stuck. However, the best option for the time is coordinating with someone who completed the registration process before. There are a lot of people, more than willing to assist with this.

Secondly, each respective state authority issue state licenses. Applicants can check them out as per the state that they are planning on running their business. Furthermore, their office would be able to assist in the same line as well.
